Securing Freedom

Over the past few years, there’s been a lot of talk about “change.” Most of us agree, change is something this country desperately needs. And we’ve had a good bit of change in just the past 12 months, but the change we’re seeing now is not the change we need. The truth is, real change has to begin with us. And by us, I mean Republicans.

So who am I?

• I’m currently the State Senator representing Aiken, Edgefield, McCormick, and Saluda Counties. I’m the first Republican to ever win this Senate seat…something most political experts said couldn’t be done.

• My wife, Blair, and I are the proud parents of our daughter, Carter, who was born last September.

• I’m energetic and passionate about public service, and I’m ready to work around the clock to change the way things are done in Washington.

• I ran for the State Senate on a promise to “shake up Columbia.” In just two years I’ve helped lead the fight for an historic “on the record” voting rules change, and I sponsored and passed earmark reform legislation in the Senate. Both changes bring new levels of spending transparency to state government.

• I’ve pushed a plan to open our coastal waters to an environmentally safe method of offshore drilling for clean and abundant natural gas.

• I’m a graduate of Clemson University and the University of South Carolina School of Law. Blair, Carter, and I live in Edgefield.

• I work hard for the community, having served as Chairman of Edgefield County’s First Steps Board and as a mentor and tutor at Johnston-Edgefield-Trenton Middle School. Blair and I are attorney coaches for the award-winning mock trial team at Strom Thurmond High School.

• I’m also an active member of the Aiken SERTOMA Club, the Johnston Lions Club, the Edgefield County United Way, the Johnston Development Board, and the Upper Savannah Council of Government’s Board of Directors.

• Blair, Carter, and I attend Providence Baptist Church in Johnston where I have taught several Sunday School classes and currently serve as Chairman of Deacons.

• I fundamentally believe that Washington is broken. Congressional liberals, with plans for outrageous spending and government control of private business, are pushing our nation toward a form of European socialism. What can we do about it? Please click here for some of my ideas.
