Hello Twitterers!
Thanks for clicking the Twitter link to learn more about me. I hope I can convince you to follow me on Twitter and to support me for Congress.
So who am I?
I’m currently a South Carolina State Senator representing Aiken, Edgefield, McCormick, and Saluda Counties. I’m the first Republican to ever win this Senate seat…something most political experts said couldn’t be done.
My wife, Blair, and I are the proud parents of our daughter, Carter, who was born last September.
I’m an energetic and passionate conservative, and I’m ready to work around the clock to change the way things are done in Washington.
I ran for the State Senate on a promise to “shake up Columbia.” In just two years I’ve helped lead the fight for an historic “on the record” voting rules change, and I sponsored and passed earmark reform legislation in the Senate. Both changes bring new levels of spending transparency to state government.
I’ve pushed a plan to open our coastal waters to an environmentally safe method of offshore drilling for clean and abundant natural gas.
I’m a graduate of Clemson University and the University of South Carolina School of Law. Blair, Carter, and I live in Edgefield.
What do I believe?
I believe ObamaCare or any version of universal health care will only lead our nation toward some form of European socialism.
I believe that too many politicians are taking the easy way out and throwing money at problems instead of doing the hard work it takes to find creative, conservative solutions.
I believe we can shake up Congress with something obviously missing from Washington…some small town common sense.
I believe that most conservatives are angry at the way Washington is putting our children and grandchildren more in debt to foreign nations like China.
I believe it’s nearly impossible at times to tell the difference between Republicans and Democrats in Washington.
I believe that big government liberal policies are NOT the “Change We Need.”
I believe we have to do more than just ‘Hope’ our way out of this economic crisis that is crushing the backs of American families.
I believe our nation moves forward when we empower people, not government.
I believe we have to rein in government spending and end the influence of lobbyists and special interests that are exploding our budgets.
I believe we have to hold politicians accountable for their pet spending projects and make Republicans start acting like Republicans again.
I believe we have to renew the Bush tax cuts, lower capital gains taxes, income taxes, and corporate taxes as a means of spurring investment and job creation.
I believe we have to kill the death tax and eliminate the marriage tax penalty.
I believe we have to completely overhaul and simplify the federal tax code.
I believe we have to use our technological advancements to drill offshore and in the ANWR as a means of reducing our dependence on foreign oil.
I believe it’s time to stop the corporate welfare programs for failed businesses and corrupt CEOs.
I believe Washington liberals are pushing our nation toward a European form of Socialism.
I believe it’s time to stop saying “someone should do something about this” and start saying “I’m going to do something about this.”
These are the reasons I have decided to run for the United States Congress. Click here to join me!
